Count Saturday sessions, not whole weekends

A Saturday workshop, market stall or volunteer shift needs one particular date each week. Counting all weekend days would double the usual weekly allowance, while counting complete weekends would wrongly reject a Saturday at the end of your range.

This page counts Saturdays individually. Use the matching dates to plan sessions, then check venue access, holidays and other commitments before treating the count as confirmed availability.

Set up your Saturday schedule

  1. Choose This month or This year, or enter a custom Start date and End date for your event season.
  2. Use Advanced: date boundaries if a session on the first or last date must be excluded. Both boundaries count by default.
  3. Review the Saturday count and Matching dates. The result changes with your inputs; Calculate helps locate an invalid date.

Remaining this year starts on the displayed UTC date and includes today if it is Saturday. Reset restores the current month and both inclusive boundaries.

Example: August 2026 workshop dates

Suppose a workshop runs every Saturday in August 2026. Enter August 1–31. The matches are August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, so the month provides five possible sessions.

If preparation occupies August 1, exclude the start date and four sessions remain. For an August 1–29 agreement that excludes both boundaries, the available Saturdays are August 8, 15 and 22. A range containing only August 1 still counts one Saturday even though the following Sunday is outside it.

August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 = 5 Saturdays

August 1–29, exclude both boundaries = 3 Saturdays

August 1 only, both included = 1 Saturday

Verify the weekly sequence

First remove any excluded boundary dates. Find the first Saturday on or after the effective start. From there, each new Saturday is one calendar week later. Count the full weekly gaps through the end and add one for the first Saturday.

In August 2026, four weekly gaps fit between August 1 and August 29. Including the first date gives five sessions. If the effective range ends before its first Saturday, the total is zero. No rounding or conversion from elapsed hours is needed.

Count = complete weeks from first Saturday to effective end + 1

Check the year rather than assuming 52 sessions

A year has 52 full weeks and one extra day, or two extra days in a leap year. Saturday may therefore occur 52 or 53 times. January 1 through December 31, 2026 contains 52 Saturdays.

For an annual programme, use This year and review First and Last before booking. Matching dates is paginated in batches of 60 for longer ranges; pagination never changes the overall result. Holidays remain in the list even if a workshop would normally pause.

When to use the weekend tool instead

A two-day activity needs both Saturday and Sunday. The Weekends Calculator can count only complete Saturday–Sunday pairs, so a lone Saturday at the end will not qualify. Use that mode when the pair, rather than a single session, is your planning unit.

Saturday is not automatically a non-working day for every organization. This calculator uses the named weekday, not a regional employment calendar. It also uses UTC for relative presets; enter a custom start if your local date differs from the displayed reference.

Questions about saturdays

Does a Saturday at the end of the range count?

Yes, if Include end date is checked. There is no requirement to include the next Sunday on this page.

Can I count the Saturdays left after today?

Choose Remaining this year. To exclude today itself, clear Include start date. This reduces the total only if the displayed UTC date is a Saturday.

Are public holidays removed?

No. Review your holiday or closure schedule separately before interpreting the result as bookable sessions.

Why is the answer different from complete weekends?

A Saturday counts by itself here. A complete weekend requires the following Sunday to be inside the boundaries too, so edge dates can produce different totals.
