Plan a midweek schedule with exact dates
If a weekly appointment starts on the first day of a month, that first date can be easy to overlook. July 2026 begins on a Wednesday, so a schedule covering the whole month includes July 1 as well as the later Wednesdays.
Use the count to estimate the number of sessions and the matching list to prepare invitations or booking records. A Wednesday being present on the calendar does not confirm that people or venues are available.
Choose a period and review the boundaries
- Use This month or This year for a whole period. For a term or booking, enter its Start date and End date.
- Keep both endpoints included unless the schedule explicitly starts after the first date or finishes before the last. The optional settings make those choices visible.
- Check the count, First, Last and Matching dates. Results update on edit; use Calculate to focus a date needing correction.
Remaining this year begins on the displayed UTC date. Reset returns to the current month with both boundaries included. If you need a different local starting date, edit Start date and keep that custom range.
Example: July 2026 weekly appointments
For an illustrative Wednesday appointment schedule, enter July 1 through July 31, 2026. The exact matches are July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. That gives five potential appointments, even though only four seven-day gaps separate the first and last.
If the arrangement begins after July 1, excluding the start leaves four Wednesdays. If the range is July 1–29 and the final appointment is also outside the agreement, exclude both boundaries. July 8, 15 and 22 remain: three appointments.
| Range and boundary choice | Wednesdays |
|---|---|
| July 1–31, both included | 5 |
| July 1–31, start excluded | 4 |
| July 1–29, end excluded | 4 |
| July 1–29, both excluded | 3 |
How the count follows the calendar
After moving past any excluded boundary, find the first Wednesday that remains. Count the complete weeks from that date to the effective end and add one for the first occurrence. Dates are integers in this calculation: there is no fractional Wednesday to round.
For July 1–31, the first Wednesday is July 1 and four full weekly intervals fit before the end. A same-day July 1 range counts one when included; July 2–2 counts zero because it is Thursday. A zero answer is valid and stays visible, unlike an invalid or missing date.
Count = complete weeks from first Wednesday to effective end + 1
July 2026: 4 + 1 = 5 Wednesdays
Leap years and year boundaries
A leap day changes the calendar length, but it does not automatically add another Wednesday. February 2024 has four Wednesdays: February 7, 14, 21 and 28. Its extra date is Thursday, February 29.
The sequence continues normally across New Year. December 30, 2026 through January 6, 2027 includes two Wednesdays, one in each year. A full year contains 52 or 53 Wednesdays because it consists of 52 full weeks plus one or two extra days.
Use the list as a scheduling check
Public holidays, term breaks and personal leave are not removed. Before sharing your plan, check the exact dates against those exceptions rather than assuming every counted Wednesday is available.
Long ranges show 60 dates per page; the full count and First/Last values do not shrink to the displayed page. UTC calendar arithmetic keeps daylight saving changes from altering the count. The displayed UTC reference also makes the meaning of relative presets explicit.
Questions about wednesdays
Is the starting Wednesday counted?
Yes by default. Clear Include start date to leave it out. If the start falls on another weekday, this setting does not remove a Wednesday.
Can a valid range return no Wednesdays?
Yes. A short range may contain no Wednesday, or exclusions may remove its only matching date. The result is zero, with no First or Last date.
Can I use a full academic term?
Yes. Enter the first and last permitted dates as a custom range. The list still includes holidays and breaks, so compare it with the actual term schedule.
Does the result measure hours until Wednesday?
No. It counts named calendar dates. It does not measure the hours between timestamps or account for the time of a Wednesday appointment.
